After redeeming a gift card, the money sits in your Google Play balance — but the balance is not always obvious to find. Here is exactly where to check it on every device, what you can spend it on, and the limitations worth knowing before you buy.
Check on Android
Open the Google Play Store app and tap your profile picture in the top-right corner. Tap Payments & subscriptions, and your current Play balance appears at the top of the screen. Tapping it shows recent activity and the payment methods linked to your account.
Check in a browser or on iPhone
On an iPhone, iPad, or computer, go to play.google.com and sign in. Click your profile picture, then Payments & subscriptions — the same balance is shown there. The balance is tied to your Google account, not your device, so it is identical everywhere you sign in.
What you can and cannot buy
Play balance covers apps, games, in-app purchases, movies, books, and most subscriptions sold through Google Play. It cannot be used for hardware on the Google Store, cannot be sent to another person, and cannot be converted back to cash.
If a purchase costs more than your balance, Google Play charges the remainder to your backup payment method automatically. There is no way to combine balances from two different Google accounts.
Balance looks wrong or missing?
First, confirm you are signed in to the same Google account that redeemed the code — this is the cause of almost every 'missing balance' report. If the account is right and the balance is still wrong, check Payments & subscriptions → Budget & history for recent purchases, then contact Google Play support with your redemption receipt.
Have a card you have not redeemed yet? Follow our redemption guide first, then your balance will appear here.
