Google Play Store Tips: Save Money and Time
Ten practical Google Play Store tips — from finding hidden deals to managing subscriptions and family sharing.
Table of contents
The Play Store has quietly picked up a lot of features over the years. Most people never touch them. Here are the ones that actually save time or money.
Find real deals
The Deals tab is easy to miss but worth checking weekly. Sort by 'Newest' rather than 'Popular' — the best discounts are often on premium apps you would not otherwise consider. Wishlist apps you want; the Play Store will notify you when they go on sale.
Manage subscriptions in one place
Under Payments & subscriptions, every recurring charge on your Google account is listed. Cancel anything you no longer use directly from here — the app cannot lock you out of cancellation. Turn on renewal reminders so you get a warning before an annual plan re-bills.
Family Library
Buy a paid app or movie once and share it with up to five family members. Not every title is eligible; the developer opts in. It is the single best way to justify paying for a great app.
Control auto-updates
Set updates to Wi-Fi only to save mobile data. On low-storage devices, disable auto-updates for apps you rarely use and update them manually when needed.
Use the refund window
You can return most Play Store purchases within two hours automatically from the app's Play Store page. After that, refunds are possible but require contacting support with a reason.
Combine these habits with a Play gift card and you can plan your annual entertainment budget in one purchase.
